Area Guide - Properties for sale in Costa De La Luz - Spain
Property in the Costa De La Luz is attracting more interest from the Northern European market. "The Coast Of Light" as it is quite rightly named due to its strong pure light that sweeps across the unspoilt coastline. Also known as the "Spanish Algarve" but with property prices here significantly lower than its Portuguese neighbour.
The Costa De La Luz has one of the most beautiful and uncrowded coastlines in the whole of Spain. Choose from long stretches of beach or small intimate coves. It is not difficult to understand why the Spanish choose to holiday in the area.
The climate is mild and pleasant throughout the seasons. The autumns and winters are cool and sunny, the springs are mild, and in the summer the Atlantic breeze helps keep the temperature a pleasant 25oC.
The Costa De La Luz has two main provinces, Huelva and Cadiz. Each can boast that they have amazing and historic cities such as Seville and Cadiz. And the colonial towns of Jerez de la Frontera and Huelva are full of Spanish charm.
As you drive into Spain the Portuguese influence is evident in the town of Isla Cristina, the resort and fishing port has more than 300 fishing boats. Further down the coast and linked by a sweeping stretch of golden beach lies the gem of Huelva in Islantilla, which consists of a small development of upmarket holiday homes by a magnificent beach.
In-between Huelva and Cadiz province lays the Donana national park which is the most interesting bird and wildlife sanctuary in Europe.
The province of Cadiz has many inviting coastal and inland areas including the increasingly popular and diverse "Chiclana" whose surroundings include residential towns to rural farm land and the Magnificent La Barossa beach area.
The area is recognised as having the best unspoilt coastline in the Costa De La Luz and "La Barossa" enjoys the Blue Flag for the clean beaches of Europe since this award was created. This beautiful beach is considered one of the best on the Andalusian coast and stretches along eight kilometres of fine, clean sand. The rolling dunes and amazing cliffs characterize its wild and unspoilt area.
The first stretch of La Barossa is quite an established Spanish tourist area and includes bars, restaurants and a commercial centre. The second stretch named "Complejo Atlantico" is the wild unspoilt area of beach.
This is where there is a small urbanisation named "Novo Sancti-Petri" which is a tourist area as well as sports complex with good standard hotels, golf and riding clubs as well as a commercial centre.
The small town of Sancti- Petri lies on the other side of La Borossa beach and was once the village where fishermen manufactured their Tuna catches. The buildings are now abandoned but a stroll through the streets is well worthwhile as they have a special charm and it's not difficult to imagine its colourful past. Sancti-Petri is a very picturesque harbour, home to many brightly coloured fishing and sailing boats. The harbour is popular with watersport enthusiasts, who use the gentle waters between the island of Sancti-Petri with its small castle and statue of Hercules; and the beach. The beach of Sancti-Petri is two kilometres long and is situated opposite the little island of the same name.
The harbour with its fishing ports, yacht clubs and sailing schools also offers fabulous views over to the town of San Fernando.
A small jetty is also the departure for sea excursions where the highlight being a whale watching tour off Tarifa.
The future of Sancti Petri lies in the possible demolition of the Tuna factories to make way for a commercial area including bars and restaurants which will surely turn this area of Chiclana into a very sought after location.
There has been virtually no property promotion in the Costa De La Luz, with only a handful of developers building under restrictions placed by the government in a deliberate attempt to divert to divert it from a similar fate to the more popular Costa's.
